Estonia, the smallest of the Baltic countries, is a fascinating, but flat country - its highest ‘mountain’ is only 318m above sea level! The capital, Tallinn, is enclosed by nearly 2km of its original 14th century city wall still standing, one of Europe’s best preserved Medieval fortifications, giving it a fairytale charm. Roughly half of the original 46 towers still loom over the Old Town, evoking images of heroic knights and damsels in distress.
Picturesque Town Hall Square has been the undisputed hub of city life for the last eight centuries, surrounded by elaborate merchant houses. Other places of interest include St Olav’s Church, Alexander Nevsky spectacular onion-domed Orthodox Cathedral, built when Estonia was part of the tsarist Russian empire, Toompea Castle and the former KGB headquarters building. You will stay at Socos Viru Hotel, or similar, on a bed and breakfast basis, with dinner one evening being included.
On Sunday morning, the group will transfer (included) to the coastal resort of Pärnu, on the Gulf of Riga, where they will be welcomed at Agapé Methodist Church for morning worship. Although the service will be in the Estonian tongue, an English translation will be instantly offered. Thornleigh Travel has had on-going contact with this Church over the years, and they are encouraged by the support. Accommodation overnight, with buffet breakfast, will be at the Hotel Pärnu, in the centre of town, or similar.
