Nice is located on the French Riviera. Blessed by a sunny, temperate climate, it attracts visitors from around the world. The Promenade des Anglais is a long seaside walkway, built in the 1830s, that stretches along the Mediterranean coast; visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk round the Baie des Anges (‘Bay of the Angels’). The main city square is Place Massena, an attractive plaza at the southern end of Avenue Jean-Médecin, one of the major shopping streets. The Cathédrale Ste-Reparate is a famous 17th century Baroque church, now Nice’s cathedral. The Russian Orthodox onion-shaped dome cathedral of St Nicolas, built in 1912, is also well worth a visit.
Cannes is on the Côte d’Azur, to the west of Nice, and a trip to this fashionable resort is included. Best known for the annual Film Festival, held each May, the community attracts the rich and famous to its expensive shops, boutiques and restaurants. It is a port-of-call for many expensive yachts.
A full day visit is included to Monte-Carlo in the principality of Monaco, to the east of Nice. It is well known for the Grand Casino, Formula 1 Racing and the Palais Princier. The sheltered harbour provides a marina for exclusive yachts and expensive boats, both large and small.
You stay at the tourist quality Campanile Hotel, on the Promenade des Anglais, close to the airport. The arrangement is that a buffet breakfast is included, as is dinner on the second evening.
