Bergen is the second largest city in Norway but with a population of only 265,000. It is known particularly for Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf, the Fish Market, the surrounding mountains and fjords, such as the Hardangerfjord and Sognefjord.
Just to browse around the old streets and alleyways is an experience. Here, people have lived and worked for centuries. Small wooden houses lie higgledy-piggledy, cobblestoned steps climb steeply, and a love of flowers spills over everything.
Bergen has one of the world’s oldest symphony orchestras and a whole range of museums and institutions. It was the birthplace of the hugely popular composer, Edvard Grieg.
You will stay at the excellent 3-star Grand Terminus Hotel, or similar. We recommend you consider booking “Norway in a Nutshell” (c.£100), a classic tour giving you an excellent insight into Norway’s magnificent nature and astounding scenery - all in one day. The tour includes the the famous Flåm Railway and the UNESCO protected Nærøyfjord.
Of all the Long-Weekends, we think this is the most spectacular. All are charged at the same price (except for the airfare).
