OBERAMMERGAUGermany
LONG - WEEKEND BREAK
Thursday to Monday, 25 - 29 Oct. 2012 (5 days)
£469.00 per person - £169 Single Supplement
+ FLIGHTS TO/FROM MUNICH AT COST
If you attended the Passion Play in Oberammergau in 2010, this long-weekend will give you the opportunity to revisit - and stay in - the beautiful Bavarian village, famous for its fresco paintings, wood carvers and, of course, the celebrated Passion Play - the last season attracted over half-a-million people to see the Play. Even if you have not been to Oberammergau previously, come along and enjoy a Bavarian long weekend.
Now the village is much quieter, but the beauty remains to be appreciated at leisure. You stay at the Hotel Alte Post, or similar accommodation, close to the main street, and the Theatre. You may choose to have a back-stage tour, when you will see many of the costumes and props used for the 109 performances in 2010.
A visit will be arranged to the nearby Royal Palace of Linderhof, once home to King Ludwig II of Bavaria (crowned 1864), son of Maximillian II. The grounds are lovely and there is an option to have a half-hour conducted tour, in English, of the palace.
Also included is a visit to the monastery church at Ettal, built in the Baroque style. The Benedictine Abbey was founded in 1330 and became one of the most important places of pilgrimage in the Alpine region.
