Prague

Prague, capital city of the Czech Republic, is located on the River Vitava in central Bohemia. Its historical centre is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Since the fall of the ‘Iron Curtain’, the city has become one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations.

You will be fascinated by the Old City with its medieval Astronomical Clock, Charles Bridge (built in 1357), Wenceslas Square - with an equestrian statue of the ’Good King’ overseeing his people - and the Castle with St Vitus cathedral in the midst.

The Christmas markets are a key ingredient of the Czech festive magic. The markets light up the city centre at this time of the year, bringing the tourists and locals together to enjoy the holiday spirit in a true ‘winter wonderland’ setting. However, the markets are not just about shopping. Food and drink form an important part of the festivities and you can watch traditional food being made. Most impressive of all is the Christmas tree, shipped from the Krkonose mountains in the north, erected in the Old Town Square and draped in a blaze of lights.

Accommodation is at the splendid 4-star Andel’s Hotel, or similar, in the suburb of Andel.
