Vienna, capital of Austria, is often said to be "The City of Dreams" because it was home to psychologist Professor Sigmund Freud. Following early settlements it was transformed into a Medieval and Baroque city, and well known for Viennese Classicism: Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Strauss and Brahms. The city centre is rich in architectural ensembles, including castles and gardens, as well as the late-19th century Ringstrasse, lined with grand buildings, monuments and parks. St Charles Church is seen top right.
A full-day visit will be made to nearby Bratislava, capital of Slovakia, located on both banks of the river Danube, and bordering Austria and Hungary. The old Slovak National Theatre building on Hviezdoslav Square is seen left.
You stay in Vienna at the 4-star Hotel Beethoven, or similar, close to the Naschmarkt open-air market.
